August 24, 2026 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing a project. DND at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Suffield is to execute a project to rewire and replace existing street lighting in the Base Admin area, and to install streetlights in the Ammunition Compound. Existing streetlight poles in the Base Administration area will be demolished. New pole-mounted LED streetlights and new 25 kV compatible underground wiring will be installed in both the Administration area and Ammunition compound. Directional drilling will be used to install wire conduits under roads and trenching will be used otherwise. Lights will be tied to existing electrical transformers.
