Fire Hall 27 Demolition

Notice of determination

[August 14, 2026] – The Calgary Airport Authority has determined that the proposed Fire Hall 27 Demolition is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

• impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
• Indigenous knowledge;
• community knowledge;
• comments received from the public; and
• technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Mitigation measures[1] taken into account for this determination are:

• Mitigate impacts to historical and archeological resources through a stop work plan if historical resources are discovered during demolition activities.
• Mitigate impacts to soil and terrain through the development of an Erosion and Sediment Control Plan and a construction specific Materials Management Plan.
• Mitigate impacts to vegetation through implementing measures to reduce the spread of invasive species, such as ensuring all equipment arrives in clean condition to the project site and ensuring any areas that need to be revegetated are vegetated with an approved seed mix.
• Mitigate impacts to wildlife and wildlife habitat by conducting a pre-demolition sweep of the building to ensure no significant wildlife features have occupied the building.
• Mitigate impacts to species of management concern by ensuring all species of management concern are reported to Calgary Airports if encountered at the project site.
• Mitigate impacts resulting from potential soil contamination through the development of a Materials Management Plan, including but not limited to soil characterization plans, decontamination controls, material handling requirements, management records, and any necessary or applicable disposal pathways.

The Calgary Airport Authority is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, the Calgary Airport Authority may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
