The proposed project

The project involves the removal of a 50,000 litre furnace oil underground storage tank (UST), including connected piping and associated equipment. The tank is no longer in use and will be emptied of any residual oil and vapors, as required, prior to removal. The tank and associated equipment will be removed and disposed of in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.

The UST is located within a landscaped area along the west side of Bell Boulevard, opposite the air terminal building at Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

Following the tank removal, soil samples will be collected from the base and sidewalls of the tank excavation and submitted for laboratory analysis to assess soil quality. The excavation will be backfilled and the site re-instated following completion of the work. Clean fill from another area of the airport property may be used as required to complete backfilling.

The work is anticipated to take place from September 22 to September 25, 2026. Traffic control measures will be implemented as required to maintain public and worker safety during the work.
