Frog Lake Cree Nation New Water Service Line – Public Comments Invited

July 30, 2026 – Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Frog Lake Cree Nation New Water Service Line, located in Frog Lake Cree Nation is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

Frog Lake Cree Nation intends to construct a new water service line. The water line will run from the existing Frog Lake Cree Nation water treatment plant, then follows Highway 897 to tie into the proposed wrap around services building. The HDPE pipeline will be approximately 3.5 km in length and will be installed via open cut or directional drilling methods where appropriate.

The Project will require vegetation removal and grubbing. The clearing area is approximately 17 500 square metres and post construction vegetation will be seeded to restore the project footprint to stabilized conditions. Vegetation clearing will be strictly limited to the proposed project area and a wildlife / nesting sweep of this area will be completed prior to the onset of clearing activities will be completed in accordance with indigenous and federal standards and regulations. Appropriate buffers setback distances will be established should any active nests be found during the sweep by a qualified wildlife specialist. The Project is not located within any sensitive wildlife zones or critical habitat.
