Notice of Determination
[July 8, 2026] – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed O'Chiese First Nation Road Landslide Remediation Project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:
- impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
- Indigenous knowledge;
- community knowledge;
- comments received from the public; and
- technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.
Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are:
- The proponent and contractor shall adhere to the wildlife, birds, vegetation, and fish and fish habitat mitigation measures prepared by the proponent.
- The proponent and contractor shall adhere to the Environmental and Construction Operations plan that sets out the appropriate measures pertaining to erosion and sediment control, emergency procedures, hazardous materials and waste management.
- The appropriate removal, disposal methods and locations of waste and hazardous/toxic material shall be adhered to by the contractor, in consultation with the Project Team and the First Nation.
- All fill material sourced from outside the immediate project footprint are to meet the environmental quality reference guidelines published by the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME).
Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
