Notice of Intent         

July 16, 2026 – Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Ermineskin Cree Nation On-Reserve Water Supply Project, located in Ermineskin Cree Nation is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, the Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project

Ermineskin Cree Nation is proposing to construct Phase I of an On-Reserve Water Supply Project. The project will include the construction of 1.3 km of waterline from the Nation Boundary to a new water reservoir and pump station and the dormancy of 6 existing groundwater well.

The project is largely contiguous to existing linear infrastructure and will pipeline will be installed using a trench method. The project will cross up to 4 temporary graminoid marsh wetlands. There are no known or suspected contaminated sites within the project footprint

No species at risk have been identified, no critical habitat in proximity of the proposed project, and construction activities will take place outside of the migratory bird period of April 15 to August 31. There are no known or suspected contaminated sites within the project footprint.

Indigenous Services Canada is providing funding for the project.
