Sayisi Dene First Nation Wastewater Treatment Plant and Water Treatment Plant Upgrade Project - 2223

Notice determination

September 5, 2024 – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that  Sayisi Dene First Nation Wastewater Treatment Plant and Water Treatment Plant Upgrade Project – 2223 is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

 

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public;
  • mitigation measures.

 

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:

  • surface and groundwater protections;
  • erosion and sediment control;
  • species at risk and habitat conservation, including fish and fish habitat;
  • vegetation disturbance minimization;
  • Invasive species propagation;
  • emissions and air quality management;
  • fuel management, spill prevention and clean-up;
  • waste management;
  • noise and traffic control; and
  • site access restrictions for safety

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Environmental effects that are within provincial jurisdiction would be addressed through provincial regulations.

 

Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
