Notice of Intent to Make a Determination

Big Island Cree Nation Road Upgrades and Repairs - Site 4 - Public Comments invited

June 25, 2026 - Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Road Upgrades and Repairs - Site 4, to be located on Big Island Cree Nation, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

Proposed Project

Big Island Cree Nation is planning road upgrades and repairs on portion of road within NW 36-62-25 W3M due to poor drainage and lack of engineered specifications of the existing roadway. The road construction will help ensure the pass ability of school and emergency vehicles. The project includes upgrading and clay capping the existing road for approximately 1 km. The existing road traverses wetland and treed areas that will be disturbed for execute construction activities.
