The Proposed Project
The proposed project involves the upgrade of three access roads leading to the Beardy's & Okemasis Cree Nation landfill in Saskatchewan. The road improvements are required to support the safe and efficient transport of materials during the planned decommissioning of the landfill. Construction will consist of upgrades to existing roadway infrastructure, including road surfacing and ditching upgrades to approximately 1.6 km of existing road 604, 1.6 km of existing landfill access road 611, and 300 m of existing landfill road 835.
Construction activities will be carried out in two phases. Road surface upgrades are scheduled for completion by September 1, 2026. Ditch construction and associated works will occur between September 2 and October 31, 2026, to avoid impacts during the bird nesting season of the region, which concludes on September 1.
All anticipated waste generated during construction activities will be responsibly managed and disposed of to a designated landfill facility. in addition, procedures will be implemented throughout construction to prevent potential contamination from petroleum products used for on-site equipment.
