Notice of Determination

Edmonton – June 16, 2026 – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Whitefish Lake First Nation Subdivision Lot Development Project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. 

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

• impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
• Indigenous knowledge;
• community knowledge;
• comments received from the public; and
• technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are:

• Consideration for back-flow prevention and disinfection protocols prior to commissioning;
• Compliance with ISC Protocol for Centralized Wastewater Systems in First Nations Communities (2010), The Alberta Standards and Guidelines for Municipal Wasteworks, Wastewater and Storm Drainage Systems (2012), and Alberta Public Health Act Nuisance and General Sanitation Regulation (2024)
• Environmental protection measures for wetlands, watercourses, wildlife, and migratory birds;
• Spill response and reporting procedures;
• Waste management requirements
