The Proposed Project

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Small Craft Harbours (DFO‑SCH) is proposing to replace an existing wharf, relocate floating wharves, and remove a decommissioned launch ramp. The project will take place at the Hnausa Small Craft Harbour, located on the western shore of the south basin of Lake Winnipeg in the community of Hnausa, Manitoba.

The #402 timber‑frame wharf at Hnausa Harbour has reached the end of its service life and requires replacement. A new wharf will be constructed with a design and orientation similar to the existing #402 structure. Both existing and new floating wharves will be attached to the new crib wharf. In addition, a decommissioned concrete launch ramp adjacent to the #402 wharf will be removed and transported off‑site.

Removal of the wharf and launch ramp will be carried out using a combination of heavy equipment and hand tools. Construction of the new crib wharf will occur on site, where heavy equipment will install components such as the timber frame and ballast rock.

Environmental protection measures will be implemented throughout the construction period, including a sediment and erosion control plan, a spill prevention and response plan, and other appropriate mitigation measures.
