The Proposed Project
The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project. The Department of National Defence is proposing the replacement of the existing single generator at building D40 in HMC dockyard with two new redundant generators in a small building. A previous engineering study identified weak points in the distribution system and the equipment that is in poor condition due to age, corrosion and lack of maintenance need replacement. The proposed work will consist of removing the existing single containerized generator system behind D40, constructing an addition onto the back of D40 (soil excavation for footings/frost walls), removing an existing oil filled pad mounted transformer and constructing a pad for a new fuel tank, trenching to install the sprinkler system water into the building, and replacing existing electrical equipment in D40/D40A. The new fuel tank is presently estimated at 9,000 L replacing the existing 1,150 L tank. The proposed work is expected to take place August 2026.
