Notice of determination 

ADM Aéroports de Montréal has determined that the proposed extension of Taxiway M at YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects by implementing the mitigation measures provided for in the project.

This determination is based on the following factors:

  • Mitigation measures that are technically and environmentally feasible below;
  • Community knowledge;
  • Knowledge and impacts on the rights of Indigenous peoples.

Mitigation measures considered for this determination and that will be put in place include:

Air quality

  • Keep moving equipment in optimal working order.
  • Limit the idling of equipment.
  • Water and sweep/vacuum surfaces to avoid dust emissions from vehicle traffic and sawing, crushing and other work.

Water quality

  • Install sediment barriers to prevent the infiltration of suspended solids into stormwater.
  • Treat and recycle the water used at the mobile concrete plant.
  • Recover and treat water from broom trucks.
  • Manage groundwater according to applicable standards.

Soil quality

  • Make sure to not store contaminated materials directly on the ground, even if temporarily so as not to contaminate the existing soil and water.
  • Characterize the excavated soils.
  • Manage, where applicable, contaminated soils in accordance with applicable regulations.

Management of construction, renovation and demolition waste

  • Crush the concrete from the top slab for reuse in the sub-foundation of the new runway threshold slab.
  • Ship materials from the demolition of the current threshold such as paving, granular materials and concrete to authorized recyclers.

Consequently, ADM Aéroports de Montréal may exercise its powers, duties and functions to enable the project to be carried out, in whole or in part.
