Pile removal – Harken Towing Fraser Surrey Basin – Public comments invited

January 15, 2026 - The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, as part of its Project and Environmental Review process, and Transport Canada, must determine whether the proposed Pile removal – Harken Towing Fraser Surrey Basin, located generally at the 10500 block of Timberland Rd, Surrey BC, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. 

To help inform this determination, and to assist the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority in making a decision on whether or not to approve the proposed project, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and Transport Canada are inviting comments from the public. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website. In addition, your contact information may be shared with third parties, e.g., the tenant, other relevant agencies, to help respond to your questions and inform possible mitigations.

Proposed Project

The proposed project consists of removing 26 x 914-millimetre diameter steel piles and approximately 15 non-treated wooden piles of various sizes within three leased water-lots in the Fraser Surrey Basin, generally located directly west of the Fraser Surrey Port Lands.

Proposed works:

  • Mobilization of a derrick barge, support barge, crew boat and support tug to site
  • Remove piles using a vibratory hammer and placing on a flat-top barge for disposal

The proposed works are expected to take approximately 10 working days to complete and will be conducted during normal construction hours, Monday to Friday.
