Pile installation – Public comments invited

April 11, 2025 As part of its Project and Environmental Review process, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority must determine whether the proposed Pile installation – Ruskin Construction, located at 8031 River Road, Delta, BC are likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Written comments to be received by May 10, 2025.

To help inform this determination and a decision on whether or not to approve the proposed project, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.  For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website. In addition, your contact information may be shared with third parties, e.g., the tenant, other relevant agencies, to help respond to your questions and inform possible mitigations.

The proposed project

Ruskin Construction Ltd. proposes to install two piles at their facility at 8031 River Road, Delta. BC. A three-pile dolphin has fallen over. The dolphin would be replaced with a pile. An additional pile would be installed to the northeast of an existing row of piles. The new pile is proposed to provide additional support to barges, enhancing operational integrity and safety.

The Project includes the installation of two steel pipe piles 106.7 centimetres by1.3 centimetres by 36.6 metres. Piles would be installed to approximately 18.3 metres using using a vibratory hammer.

Project works are proposed to take place during the fisheries least-risk window for the Project area (June 16 – February 28) during regular work hours.
