The proposed project

Peter Kiewit Sons ULC proposes to expand and enhance their marine yard located on the Fraser River at 1950 Brigantine Drive, Coquitlam to better serve their regional projects and maintain its Canadian fleet of marine vessels.

The Project would include:

  • Removal of approximately 100 existing timber and steel piles, with potential for additional pile removal as necessary (i.e. piles previously cut at the mudline etc.)
  • Dredging approximately 220,000 cubic metres of sediment over an area of approximately 71,230 square metres
  • Excavating and infilling to expand the existing yard by approximately 7,420 square metres of which 4,400 square metres are below the high-water level and including approximately 2,555 square metres of riprap
  • Replacement and installation of new stormwater infrastructure within both the existing and infill areas, incorporating stormwater pollution prevention measures
  • Installation of three pile-supported marine structures and associated mooring fixtures, for loading and unloading marine equipment, construction materials, maintenance and disposal at sea material
  • Installation of approximately 18 mooring dolphins
  • Foreshore restoration and riparian planting of an area of approximately 2,170 square metres
  • Installation of floating debris booms to prevent debris build up in restoration areas
  • Creation of approximately 5,215 square metres of intertidal marsh bench habitat to offset project impacts
  • Associated works and installations, including but not limited to, grading and paving, lighting, truck wheel wash, concrete barriers and utility infrastructure

Dredged material would be transported for disposal at an approved disposal at sea site under a valid Disposal at Sea permit per the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.

Dredging as well as some shoreline works would be performed outside of regular construction hours due to tidal fluctuations. Other construction activities would occur during standard construction hours, Monday to Saturday, 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.
