Public Notice
January 13, 2026 – Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada must determine whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
To help inform this determination, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.
Written comments must be submitted by february 12, 2026 to contact identified on the project page.
The Proposed Project
Telus Communications Inc. plans to install fiber optic cabling, for Internet purposes, to four (4) Indigenous residential homes in Okanagan, in British Columbia.
The project involves the installation of approximately twenty one point 5 (21.5) km of underground or aerial fiber optic cable as follows:
- One (1) km in NESKONLITH 1.
- Three (3) km in SAHHALTKUM 4.
- Four (4) km in OKANAGAN 1.
- Five hundred (500) m in MEADOW CREEK 3.
- Three (3) km in SALMON RIVER 1 (SPLATSIN).
- Five (5) km in ENDERBY 2.
- Five (5) km in Switsemalph.
The cable will be buried by directional drilling, trenching, or using existing conduits, or a combination of these methods in existing roadway alignments, or will be suspended on support structures to connect to residential homes and businesses.
