Public Notice

December 9, 2025 – Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada must determine whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

Written comments must be submitted by January 8, 2026 to contact identified on the project page.

The Proposed Project

Telus Communications Inc. plans to install fiber optic cabling, for Internet purposes, to fifty five (55) residential homes in Simpcw, fifty (50) residential homes in Simpcw First Nation and nineteen (19) residential homes in Whispering Pines/Clinton in British Columbia.

The project involves the installation of approximately forty four point three (44.3) km of underground or aerial fiber optic cable as follows:

- One (1) km in Schelowat 1.

- Thirteen (13) km in Whispering Pines 4.

- Five (5) km in Cheam 1.

- Two (2) km in Soowahlie 14.

- One (1) km in Tzeachten 13.

- Three hundred (300) m in Louis Creek 4.

- Three (3) km in Langley 4.

- Twelve (12) km in North Thompson 1.

- Four (4) km in PopKum 1.

- Three (3) km in Kamloops 4.

The cable will be buried by directional drilling, trenching, or using existing conduits, or a combination of these methods in existing roadway alignments, or will be suspended on support structures to connect to residential homes and businesses.
