The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project. The scope of the proposed project is to remove the existing concrete and asphalt pavements, storm drainage and sub-drainage piping, runway, runway approach, and taxiway edge lighting and cables; and then to install new storm drainage and sub-drainage piping, new electrical cables and manholes, new runway, runway approach, and taxiway edge lighting, new airfield signage, new hot mix asphalt pavements, new Portland cement concrete pavements, new runway end safety area, new paint markings, grooving of the new runway surface, and landscaping around the new runway. Millings from the former runway are to be used around the perimeter road of the airfield and at the Runway End Safety Areas (RESA) areas to reinforce the areas. The grooving slurry is proposed to be stored on site in a constructed, lined pit, and monitored to ensure there are no impacts to groundwater.

The area of the runway is approximately 137,160 m2 and the proposed project will take the same space of the current runway area. The project site is located on DND owned land and is located within the Airfield Operational Zone of 15 Wing Moose Jaw.
