The Proposed Project
In 2017, access to the Chaudière Crossing Arch No. 3 and Hull Trestle structures was closed to both vehicular traffic and active transportation due to health and safety concerns stemming from the potential instability of the underlying bedrock foundations. Following the completion of a feasibility study, it was determined that stabilizing the underlaying bedrock is not feasible. As a result, Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) has decided to proceed with a phased deconstruction project of the aforementioned structures, driven by health and safety imperatives.
This project will also include site reinstatement activities, such as the construction of new retaining walls at the north and south ends of the demolished structures to retain the existing fill and ensure long-term site stability. The Project Team will collaborate closely with local stakeholders and authorities to ensure the work is carried out safely, with minimal disruptions to local traffic and surrounding communities.
