Bruce C Nuclear Project
Pre-planning Activities and Resources
Context
The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) makes itself available for early engagement by proponents of projects anticipated to require an impact assessment under the Impact Assessment Act. IAAC encourages early engagement in support of an efficient regulatory process. During pre-planning, IAAC can share resources and preliminary advice with proponents related to the Impact Assessment Act and associated policies and guidance. Where an impact assessment is integrated with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), to meet requirements under the Nuclear Safety and Control Act, preliminary advice and resources are prepared in collaboration between IAAC and the CNSC.
For further information about integrated assessments, please consult the Memorandum of Understanding on Integrated Impact Assessments Under the Impact Assessment Act Between The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada and The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
Early Engagement with Bruce Power
On December 16, 2024, IAAC decided that an impact assessment for the proposed Bruce C Nuclear Project is required, and on the same day referred the impact assessment to a review panel. Given that the integrated assessment of the proposed project is referred to a review panel who will write its report based on the public record, IAAC and CNSC are posting the documents within the following table to support transparency and meaningful participation in the integrated assessment of the proposed Bruce C Nuclear Project.
The table below documents some of the key advice provided to Bruce Power, prior to the start of the Planning Phase, during which a Registry Page for the proposed Project was not yet available.
Although IAAC, with the CNSC, prepared these materials to respond to specific requests for guidance and training from Bruce Power, these activities and resources are representative of support IAAC can provide to any proponent during early engagement.
| Activity / Resources | Prepared by | Date | Summary |
