Batchawana Small Craft Harbour Dredging and Shore Protection
August 21, 2025 – Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Small Craft Harbours Branch, must determine whether the proposed Batchawana Small Craft Harbour Dredging and Shore Protection project located on Batchawana Bay, Lake Superior in Ontario, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
To help inform this determination, Fisheries and Oceans Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project
Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Small Craft Harbours is responsible for maintaining a safe and accessible harbour at Batchawana, ON and is planning a project to dredge the harbour to maintain navigable depths and install shore protection at the Batchawana Small Craft Harbour site.
The proposed project includes:
- Dredge approx. 450m3 of infilled material and spread/grade on site to match existing
- Placement of 20 tonnes of core stone along east side of wharf
- Placement of 25 tonnes of armour stone along east side of wharf
All new stone placed for shore protection will be clean rip rap and larger armour with the majority being placed above the ordinary high water mark to amend the existing shore protection components on site.
