Berens River Small Craft Harbour Breakwater Repairs and Pile Installation
August 18, 2025 – Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Small Craft Harbours Branch, must determine whether the proposed Berens River Small Craft Harbour Breakwater Repairs and Pile Installation project located at Berens River Small Craft Harbour on Sigurdsson Island on Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
To help inform this determination, Fisheries and Oceans Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project
Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Small Craft Harbours is responsible for maintaining a safe and accessible harbour at Berens River, MB, and is planning a project to repair the existing breakwater and float wharves, and install of new steel anchor piles at the Berens River - Sigurdsson Island Small Craft Harbour site.
This project includes:
- Addition of 1743 tonnes of armour stone to the existing breakwater over approximately 10,000m2
- Installation of three (3) new 12 meter long steel anchor piles to support existing floating docks
- Installation of three (3) new steel lug plates to the existing principal floating docks
- Installation of two (2) 1.2m x 6.1m finger floating docks
