The Proposed Project
Signature Aviation is proposing to construct and operate a new helicopter hangar at 4360 Agar Drive, Vancouver International Airport in Richmond, B.C. This new facility is an expansion of their existing hangar facilities at the same address. The proposed hangar building has approximately 2,600 square meters of floor space over one and half floors. The total project area is approximately 4700 m2. The new hangar building will include helicopter storage and maintenance area, as well as office spaces. New facilities will include the new hangar building, new security fence including relocation of primary security line (PSL), parking lot expansion, landscaping, new vehicle lanes and pathways, utilities and site services. The hangar is intended to be used for helicopters dedicated to air ambulance use and will be utilized for aircraft maintenance and storage. Operations will occur on an as needed basis, with air ambulance helicopters dispatched and returning according to demand. The hangar will have capacity for up to three helicopters. Daily aircraft movements will therefore vary as the facility supports emergency and maintenance activities. Full time support staff will be on site, and pilots may also be accommodated on the premises to assist with air ambulance and evacuation procedures as needed.
The site is currently occupied by pavement (parking lot) and vacant grass lawn.
Signature Aviation is also planning to construct a fixed-wing hangar located north-east of the helicopter hangar. The two hangars are being assessed as separate projects.
