YUL Montreal-Trudeau International Airport - Expansion of the Air Inuit building (Lot 5 450 518)
August 8, 2025 – ADM Aéroports de Montreal has determined that the Air Inuit garage expansion project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects by applying the mitigation measures provided for in the project.
This decision is based on the following factors:
- Mitigation measures that are technically and environmentally feasible below;
- Community knowledge;
- Knowledge and impacts on the rights of Indigenous peoples.
The mitigation measures considered in this determination are as follows:
Wildlife
- Before work begins, the site must be checked for active nests. If an active bird nest is found on the site, it must be protected until the end of the nesting season.
Air quality
- Regular maintenance of access roads and traffic lanes, including watering, dust suppression, or street sweeping.
- Speed limit of 10 km/h.
- Machinery and equipment maintained in good condition with adequate pollution control systems.
- Minimize unnecessary travel and avoid idling engines.
- Prioritize electric equipment.
- Trucks transporting granular materials covered with tarpaulins.
Soil quality
- Regular inspection of machinery to detect leaks and prevent spills.
- Refueling by truck with portable tank.
- Refueling strictly more than 60 m from the ditch.
- Place a tray or tarp under the machinery during refueling operations.
- Fuel-powered equipment (pumps, generators, etc.) placed in retention trays inspected before and after rain.
- Spill kit with fire extinguisher and emergency procedure available on site.
- Water used to clean concrete mixers collected in sealed containers. At the end of the project, water management and transport of solids to an authorized site.
- Soil managed according to the Excavated Soil Management Grid and applicable regulations.
Water quality
- Installation of buried sediment barriers along ditches and regular inspections.
- Filtration of construction site water in a sedimentation basin before discharge into the storm sewer system.
- Diversion of runoff water to devices (e.g., straw bales) to capture sediment before infiltration.
- Daily on-site supervision with monitoring of the application of measures.
Noise and vibrations
- Maintenance of equipment silencers and catalytic converters.
- Vehicles equipped with broadband reversing alarm and reduction in reversing maneuvers.
- Prohibition of engine breaking.
- Avoid banging dumpsters during unloading.
Hazardous materials

Handling and use of any hazardous material beyond a specified minimum distance from any ditch or storm drain.
