The Proposed Project
The Project is located approximately 19 kilometres (km) northeast of Brocket, Alberta in the Piikani Reserve, (formerly Peigan IR No. 147). The proposed waterline is approximately 3.5 km in length, with a 30 m wide Right-of-Way and is located within Sections 23, 26, 27, and 34-08-27 W4M. The proposed waterline will support five irrigation areas and an inlet structure settling pond pump station.
The irrigation waterline will be connected to the existing Lethbridge Northern Headworks Canal on the Piikani Nation. An existing borrow pit is adjacent to the irrigation canal; this will be developed into a settling pond and will be used as the location for the waterline intake (Figure 2a). The waterline will cross one unnamed stream (FWIMT ID 87912) in NW 26-8-27-W4M. No wetlands were identified within 100 m of the irrigation pipeline. Impacts to wetlands are not anticipated as part of the construction and operation of the irrigation pipeline and in-water works are not anticipated.
