Porpoise Harbour Dock Demolition
The Prince Rupert Port Authority plans to decommission a small area of old timber pilings in Porpoise Harbour, located in Port Edward, British Columbia.
It was determined that the pilings area and all of its components should be decommissioned, utilizing heavy equipment, primarily a crane working from a floating barge, to remove the pilings and related materials. The timber piles will be removed using a hydraulic vibratory extractor, which will be operated from the barge mounted crane, and the debris will be hoisted onto the material deck barge. A containment boom will be deployed to encircle the worksite to ensure no woody debris or contamination from the demolition process exits the Project work area, and all of the pilings and related materials will be transported to approved disposal facilities.
