Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek Waste Transfer Station Project
Notice of Determination
Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek – May 05, 2025 – ISC has determined that the proposed Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek Waste Transfer Station Project:
- is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects
This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:
- impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
- Indigenous knowledge;
- community knowledge;
- comments received from the public; and
- technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.
Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are:
- Clearing and grubbing activities should be completed outside of the bird breeding season (April 20 - August 28, according to the Government of Canada Nesting Calendar for Zone C5), to ensure protection of the various bird and bat species that could utilize the existing habitat for nesting. If clearing is required during the bird breeding season, then an environmental professional must inspect the trees immediately before clearing to ensure there are no nests present that contain a live bird or eggs. Bird nesting activity and use of the site will be investigated during future fieldwork activities.
- All waste and recycling will be stored within large, roll-off waste disposal bins. There is no on-site fuel required for site operations. During construction the contractor will follow appropriate health and safety practices and environmental management plans, including spill response, waste management, and emergency response.
- Waste generated during construction of this project will be very minor and primarily consist of construction materials. Any waste generated will be collected by the contractor and removed from site to a designated waste facility.
ISC is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
Therefore, ISC may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
