The Proposed Project

Nekaneet Cree Nation is proposing to construct a new firehall to meet the needs of the community. The community's previous firehall and associated equipment were destroyed by fire in 2022, and the nearest fire protection services are in Maple Creek, which has an estimated response time of 30 minutes. The project includes the construction of a new firehall west of the core area near the school and band office, and will have two bays and wash facilities. The site is located near an existing water main servicing the school, and power, gas and telecommunication lines are located nearby. Sewage disposal would require a septic tank and pump to discharge the sewage.

Site preparation activities will include stripping of vegetation and topsoil and excavation to footing depths. Construction activities will include building a new firehall and site landscaping. The overall footprint of the project is approximately 1,000 square meters.
