The Proposed Project

Ministikwan Lake Cree Nation is proposing to repair and upgrade the existing road network within the reserve to address a variety of issues related to roadway usability and ability of band members to access their homes. Main issues identified relate to roadway surface conditions, lack of gravel, heavy rutting, and several culvert related issues. Key concerns expressed by residents include safety, emergency access, and basic operational (usability) needs. The project will be completed in four phases, based on the priorities identified by the Band and road condition ratings. Approximately 7.1 km of roadway will be addressed in Phase 1.

Road repair and upgrade will include activities including tree clearing, construction of adequate cross slopes, road widths, ditches and embankments, graveling and/or stabilization, and installation of culverts to provide an adequate driving surface and drainage. Each major crossing will be designed to meet a 1:50 year flood return event and to meet fish passage requirements.
