Public Comment Period on Intent to Make a Determination
Construct North Access Road - 15 Wing Moose Jaw

February 11, 2025 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project. As future development and upgrades occur, a requirement for an alternative entrance to the Wing during construction has been identified. This existing access is the main artery for access to the base which also includes emergency services and crash route. The alternate access will also be utilized for primary contractor route for future construction access to the West side of the base. This project will result in a roadway 347 m in length to be built at the north gate and connect it to the north end of Rome Street, near the 15 Wing Mess Hall. Construction activities will include removing vegetation, stripping topsoil, building up the sub-base, base and laying asphalt. The urban sections of the road will include installing curbs and gutters and tying into existing curbs. Modification of the existing gate and fence, as well as modifying the approach and tie into the highway will be required.
