The REACTS-IN program aims to improve nutrition and gender equality for the most vulnerable women, adolescent girls, and children under 5 years of age in four countries including Somalia. Somalia faces significant challenges in maternal and child health, nutrition, access to clean water and sanitation, and family planning. These challenges highlight the need for comprehensive efforts to improve healthcare access, education, and infrastructure in the country. To improve access to and availability of primary healthcare services, the project will rehabilitate five healthcare facilities (Badbado, Ribo, Darusalem, Towfiq and Kalmo) located in Baidoa District in the South-west region of Somalia. These facilities will also be supported by the project through procurement of essential medical and nutrition supplies, medical equipment, IEC materials and medical registers. The proposed physical work will include repair/partitioning of rooms for Reproductive Health counseling and service provision, maintenance/installation of solar system for night services, cold chain systems to improve vaccination services, and rehabilitation of water and sanitation system (Incinerators, placental pit, septic tanks, toilets, water system). These physical works will comply with the requirements of Canadian Impact Assessment Act, Somalian Ministry of Health (MOH) standards and international best practices.
