The Proposed Project

Big Island Lake Cree Nation is proposing to build a new Child and Family Service Centre that will provide services to families and children in a safe, welcoming, healthy, and supportive environment. The services to be provided in the new facility includes prevention, counselling, mental health services, access to Elders, land-based learning, traditional teachings, social services, and others. The main building will be approximately 1,401 m2 with a separate cold storage building, sweat lodge building, outdoor quiet/healing area, outdoor play area and surface parking space. The proposed location is adjacent to paved road, gravity sewer, piped potable water, natural gas, power and telephone services. The expected lifespan of the facility is 40 to 50 years.

Construction activities will include site preparation and installation of servicing lines to the nearby mainlines (water, sewer, power). Portable washrooms will be provided for construction workers during the construction phase. Debris will be sorted and diverted to an approved disposal site capable of handling associated construction debris.
