Medcof Building Demolition Project
Notice of Determination
December 4, 2024 – The Fisheries and Oceans Canada has determined that the proposed Medcof Building Demolition Project, located in St. Andrews, New Brunswick is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:
- impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
- comments recieved from the public; and
- technically and economically feasible mititaiton measures.
Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are:
Birds and/or their Habitat
- Activities will occur outside nesting season for breeding range C.
Noise Levels
- Temporary noise levels are anticipated during demolition activities. Activities will be conducted within daylight hours and in compliance with the City/Municipal Bylaws.
Human Health and Saftety
- The primary risks to health and safety are demolition activities and heavy equipment. A tailgate safety meeting will be held daily to review tasks and environmental considerations. Contaminated materials will be handled with appropriate PPE, and all personnel will wear PPE suited to their tasks. A Health and Safety Plan will be submitted by the contractor prior to starting work.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
Therefore, Fisheries and Oceans Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
