Notice of Determination

Last Mountain Lake National Wildlife Area – 19 November 2024 – Environment and Climate Change Canada's Canadian Wildlife Service and Transport Canada have determined that the proposed Last Mountain Lake Water Control Structure Re-Naturalization Project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:
·    Impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples; 
·    Indigenous knowledge;
·    Community knowledge;
·    Comments received from the public; 
·    Input provided by provincial and federal regulatory bodies; and
·    Technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Where applicable, mitigation measures will be implemented on site to reduce impacts to fish and fish habitat, wildlife and wildlife habitat, migratory birds, and species at risk.

Environment and Climate Change Canada's Canadian Wildlife Service and Transport Canada are satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Environment and Climate Change Canada's Canadian Wildlife Service and Transport Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
