Notice of Intent to Make a Determination

Peter Ballantyne Child and Family Services Inc. Central Office Extension - Public Comments invited

September 3, 2024 - Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Peter Ballantyne Child and Family Services Inc. Central Office Extension, to be located on Chief Joseph Custer Reserve, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

Proposed Project

Peter Ballantyne Child and Family Services Inc. is proposing an addition and renovation of the existing Peter Ballantyne Child and Family Services Main Administration building. The project includes a 2 story addition adjacent to the existing office consisting of 11 new offices, Conference/meeting Room and Ceremonial Room along with associated support spaces ie Mechanical, Electrical, storage, washrooms  and stairwells.  Total building area is 612 sq.m. with a total floor area of 298.7 sq.m. and a total occupancy of 100 people. The addition will be connected south of the existing building with a link on approx. 0.7 acres of land on the Chief Joseph Custer Reserve. A full interior renovation of the existing 681 sq.m. single story office to include new flooring, painting, new ceilings redesign of the reception, program kitchen, community program areas along with upgraded mechanical and electrical systems will also be performed.  A separate maintenance/dry storage facility or 185 sq.m. will be constructed in the north west corner of the property to act a distribution center for general office and support home materials.  A new 18 stall parking lot will be constructed on the south as well as a redesign of the existing  55 stall north parking lot complete with new paved surfaces and associated site services.  A new sewer, water and natural gas connect from the new Maintenance/Storage Building will be installed to connect to an existing manhole, water and natural gas service.  The addition to the office building will be connected to existing services. The upgraded facility is expected to have a 50 yr life span.
