Construction of 4 shades houses
Document reference number: 2
OTTAWA – August 7, 2024 – Global Affairs Canada has determined that the proposed project of Construction of 4 Shades houses is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:
- community knowledge; and
- technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.
Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are:
- Appropriate management of nursery waste to reduce its negative impact. Nursery staff will receive training and awareness-raising to ensure proper waste sorting and storage, as well as composting of organic waste, thus aiming to minimize its generation.
- Sanitary protocol will be drawn up to minimize the risk of insect attacks, and also to have a procedure for dealing with possible attacks by insect pests and cryptogamic diseases, while respecting the environment. The use of biopesticides will be prioritized for plant maintenance, given their low level of toxicity.
- Installation of a rational water management system using a micro-sprinkler irrigation system with misting.
- Promote composting of organic waste.
- Build latrines with a minimum distance of 10 m between the base of the latrine and the water table.
- Maintain vegetation buffer zone.
