Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle - August 2th, 2024 -  The Canada Border Services Agency has determined that the proposed Modernization of St-Bernard-de-Lacolle Port of Entry project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.
  • community knowledge;
  • Indigenous knowledge and impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;

The mitigation measures taken into account for this determination mainly concern the following issues:

  • The health and safety of workers and users of the site,
  • The risks of failures and accidents,
  • The use of construction machinery and vehicles,
  • Removal and pruning of trees,
  • Management of contaminated soils,
  • Decontamination of buildings to be demolished,
  • Management of surface water and snow and
  • The presence of new buildings and infrastructure.

The Canada Border Services Agency is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Canada Border Services Agency may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
