The proposed project
The "Feminist Climate Action in West Africa" Project aims to amplify community responses for climate adaptation by strengthening the participation of women and youth in local governance of biodiversity and climate action, by improving agroecological practices and the rehabilitation of ecosystems and improving their economic power in Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal and Togo.
The project is implemented in several communities in the four countries. Plans include:
- fish tanks with an aeration and filtration system
- forest tree planting and mangrove restoration
- hand-dug water boreholes, of varying depth depending on the site
- installation of solar water pumping systems and more water-efficient irrigation systems
- protection of the market garden perimeter (mesh fences, wires and iron stakes)
- buildings for a storage warehouse and rest area with toilets with connection to sewers or septic systems
- construction and maintenance of irrigation basins
- installation of a complete autonomous solar system (solar pump & panel) with the piping that will supply the pools
- anti-salt dikes artisanally-made or made by a machine
