June 5, 2023 – Global Affairs Canada must determine whether the construction of 15 incinerators in 15 health facilities (HF) in the Kailahun District, Sierra Leone is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.  These incinerators are expected to promote safe management and disposal of biomedical clinical waste and other medical products at the Health facilities identified.   

To help inform this determination, Global Affairs Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public. The Proposed Project 

Project Title: Construction of 15 incinerators in 15 health facilities in the Kailahun District in Sierra Leone 

Summary of the Project: The Project Strengthening Adolescent Girls' Sexual and Reproductive Health (FOUNDATIONS) is funded by the Canadian Government through Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and is implemented by Save the Children Canada. With the objective to enhance empowerment of adolescent girls, particularly the most marginalized and vulnerable, to exercise their Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health rights in Mali, Niger, and Sierra Leone, the Project aims to improve the health environment and the management of biomedical waste in health facilities. It is in this context that FOUNDATIONS plans to carry out construction work on 15 incinerators.
