Sipekne'katik Subdivision Development – Public Comments Invited

April 3, 2023 Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) must determine whether the proposed Sipekne'katik Subdivision Development, located in Sipekne'katik First Nation, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, ISC and CMHC are inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project

The project consists of the development of a proposed residential subdivision located on Sipekne'katik First Nation, NS. The total project footprint is approximately 10 hectares, including 1.4km of roads and utilities (water main and, sanitary sewers) and up to 76 housing lots (800 – 1,100m2 per lot).  Final location of each building will be based on site constraints and environmental considerations. .

Activities include site preparation, clearing and grubbing of the project site; implementation of sediment and erosion control measures; site grading; excavation, placement fill and gravel; installation of new water lines and sanitary sewer main; ditches and culverts; utility poles; construction of asphalt roads, gravel driveways and parking area.
