Notice of intent to make a determination

Fishing Lake First Nation - Sewage Lagoon Expansion - Public Comments Invited

December 14, 2022 - Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Fishing Lake First Nation - East Lagoon Expansion, located on Fishing Lake IR 89A, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

Works to include:

Construction of a two celled HDPE lined facultative lagoon (primary cell 1.5ha, Storage: 50,000 Cu.m) located in NW & NE & SE & SW - Sec 15 Twp 33 Rng 12 W2M. Infrastructure life span anticipated for 30+ years, with proper operation and maintenance. Existing lagoon (same site) to be decommissioned to WSA standards upon new Lagoon completion.  Purpose of the project is to supply Fishing Lake First Nation with adequate sewage handling and treatment for the foreseeable future. All work within First Nation boundaries.

Vegetation will be stripped. Topsoil will be removed and stock piled. Berm material will be excavated, relocated and packed in place. HDPE liner will be installed on lagoon floor and fused. Topsoil will be replaced and seeded.

Primary Waste will be typical construction waste (access lumber etc.), minor access HDPE pipe, vegetation, and access topsoil.
