The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project which will involve the construction of emergency generator systems for the Colwood Fuel Oil Depot and the Colwood Warehouse Facility. Neither facility currently has any backup power supply. The Fuel Depot is a largely automated facility with computer controlled equipment that allows ships to be fueled safely and in a timely manner. The Warehouse is fitted with electronically controlled, automated rack storage systems. In order for both of these facilities to remain operational during a power outage an emergency generation system is required. The intent is to supply two generators including one new 350 kilowatt generator and one new 1200 kilowatt generator. Both generators will be outfitted with above ground fuel tanks that will require Product Transfer Areas. The approximate size of fuel tanks will be 2500 litres and 10,000 litres.
