La Baie – May 13, 2022 – The Saguenay Port Authority has determined that the proposed Minor Wharf repair and D-Fenders installationis not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are:

  • Concrete demolition : The Contractor will use his work platform to make its construction site impermeable to the possibility of rejection of concrete in the Saguenay environment. We will limit the use of water for cleaning so as not to generate water flows containing suspended particles. Supervision will be exercised in order to ensure that the Contractor does not reject the drilling dust in water;

  • Wet Concrete : The Contractor will use his work platform to make its construction site impermeable to the possibility of rejection of concrete in the Saguenay environment. We will limit the use of water for cleaning so as not to generate water flows containing suspended particles. The Contractor will have a disposal bin for readymix end rejects;

  • The contractor will leave the corner fenders in place and the Port will dispose of it in an authorized site;

  • The Port of Saguenay will use fenders designed with recycled tires for this project. Valuation of products at the end of their life cycle is considered as a positive environmental practice by SPA.

The Saguenay Port Authority is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, the Saguenay Port Authority may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
