Notice of intent to make a determination

 

Couchiching First Nation Building Demolition, Vegetation Removal and Access Road Construction Project – Public Comments Invited

 

August 13, 2021– Indigenous Services Canada, and Environment and Climate Change Canada, must determine whether the proposed Building Demolition, Vegetation Removal and Access Road Construction Project, located in Couchiching First Nation is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

The proposed project includes:

  1. the demolition and removal of seven buildings or structures including a former float plane Hanger, two garages, a former air base building, an old wooden shed west of the Bingo Hall parking lot,  concrete slab on grade located north of the hangar; and, an old wooden building adjacent to the shoreline, east of the hangar.
  2. Removal of Vegetation, including trees, brush, and riparian areas from approximately 8.5 hectares of land
  3. Construction of approximately 1 km of access roads on the site

The project is planned to commence in fall 2021, with site preparation, vegetation clearing activities and building demolition from November 2021 to March 2022, followed by access road construction in spring 2022.
