Update: Regional Assessment of Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration Drilling East of Newfoundland and Labrador

July 15, 2021 —The Terms of Reference for the Regional Assessment (RA) of the Offshore Oil and Gas Exploratory Drilling East of Newfoundland and Labrador Follow-up Program and the Ministerial Response Progress Report are now finalized.

The Follow-up Program is an initiative of the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, and led by the Regional Assessment Follow-up Program Steering Committee (Steering Committee).

The purpose of the Follow-up Program is to track and report on the progress of commitments outlined in the Ministerial Response to the Regional Assessment Committee's Report (Ministerial Response).

The newly established Terms of Reference describe the program's objectives, governance structure, legislated authorities, funding, as well as the roles and responsibilities of participants, including the Steering Committee and the RA Follow-up Advisory Committee.

The Ministerial Response Progress Report outlines the progress made towards achieving the commitments outlined in the Ministerial Response.

The Steering Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of the following members to the RA Follow-up Advisory Committee. This Committee is responsible for providing advice to the Steering Committee on the development and implementation of the RA Follow-up Program.

The selected members will review technical documents and emerging information to provide advice and support the RA Follow-up Program as outlined in the final Terms of Reference.

The Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador will continue to advance the commitments and initiatives outlined in the Minister's Response. Updates to the RA Follow-up Program will be posted to the Canadian Impact Assessment Registry.
