 The Proposed Project

The proposed Project is comprised of constructing a new Solid Waste Transfer Station (SWTS) near the existing landfill at Grandmother's Bay. This Project will also include: a new access road (for improved site lines and safety), local collection of municipal solid waste (MSW) at all houses at GMB, and decommissioning the existing landfill site. The final disposal site for material collected at the SWTS would be the regional landfill owned and operated by Lac La Ronge Regional Waste Management Corporation (LLRRWMC) near La Ronge, SK. The Project is expected to operate for 25 years and is located off-reserve on provincial Crown lands.

The SWTS site will be approximately one hectare and will be developed such that drainage is away from the transfer area and erosion is prevented. The existing tree cover will be maintained and protected whenever possible to help minimize the degree of litter that blows off site and help to improve the overall aesthetics of the area.

The following permits and authorizations from the Saskatchewan Provincial Government have been obtained for this project: permit to operate from Sask Ministry of Environment (MOE), lease agreement (MOE), forest product permit (MOE), Crown Land work authorization (MOE), Schedule A –  Development Permit Conditions (MOE).
