Whitefish Lake Fire Guard Project – Public Comments Invited

February 24, 2021 – Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Whitefish Lake Fire Guard Project located on Whitefish Lake First Nation 155 reserve lands is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

Whitefish Lake First Nation plans to construct a fire guard around portions of the community that are most likely to be impacted by forest fires. Construction will involve the logging and removal of timber along the fire guard. Approximately 110 hectares will be cut. All logging will follow the Alberta Guidelines for Timber Harvest.
