Demolition of the Air Traffic Control Tower, Canadian Forces Base Greenwood, Greenwood, Nova Scotia

February 24, 2021 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

With the construction of the new Air Traffic Control Tower complete, the Department of National Defence proposes the demolition of the old Air Traffic Control Tower. The old Air Traffic Control Tower, identified as B073, is located at the roof level of Hangar 10 within the active airfield operations zone of the Canadian Forces Base Greenwood, Greenwood, Nova Scotia (44°59'0.12"N, 64°54'47.25"W). The project will involve hazardous materials abatement, demolition of B073 and all contents as well as off-site disposal of waste material to an approved disposal facility. Upon completion of the demolition activities the roof of Hangar 10 will be repaired and all other areas effected by the demolition will be restored to original conditions.
