Notice of Time Limit Resuming

Ottawa — February 26, 2021— Today, the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (the Agency) resumed the 180-day time limit for the Planning Phase under the Impact Assessment Act for the Suncor Base Mine Extension Project.

The time limit had been suspended at the request of Suncor Energy Inc. (the proponent) to allow sufficient time to prepare the draft Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines in cooperation with Alberta. The proponent completed the draft provincial Terms of Reference and provided them to the Agency to complete the draft Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines.

The proponent thereby completed the activity for which they requested that the time limit be suspended on September 18, 2020, and the 180-day time limit has resumed.

The 180-day time limit is the period of time within which the Agency must provide the proponent with a notice of the commencement of the impact assessment. As of February 26, 2021, there are 66 days remaining in the 180-day time limit.
